Due to the nationwide absence of village accountability platforms within Uganda, we established the MDD accountability dialogues, where village residents, particularly girls, young women, boys and young men, hold their village and national leaders, including government officers, to account on matters of;
Through the use of a combination of Music, Dance and Drama (MDD) and legislative theatre or theatre of the oppressed. Additionally, the dialogue also gives participants the opportunity to decide on the best village sensitive (or bottom-up national policy) that may be developed by our team, in partnership with the community, and presented to the parliament of Uganda for implementation or passing into law.
It should also be noted that this project was established with the focus of giving minorities, especially children and youths, an artistic or creative platform/space where they may raise their voices on matters related to good governance like environment protection and climate change, health, violence and peace and security, without political retaliation.
The project was piloted this project in 2021 with the support of Accountability Lab Global to raise awareness and hold village leaders to account on violence during the COVID pandemic, especially against women and girls in Wakiso district, Uganda. The project continues to be implemented to date thanks to the support of IAC Berlin in partnership with the Bosch Alumni Network, for the year 2022/23, and People Powered, for the year 2024/25.
Through this project, we have benefitted at least 6,000 people to date.
