Who We Are?
MIGHT Foundation (MIGHT) is a Ugandan non-partisan and non-profit organization that researches, advocates, litigates and carries out capacity and community development projects for the promotion, protection and strengthening of peace, human rights and related inclusive sustainable development matters like agriculture, finance and trade. In achieving its vision and mission, MIGHT works with communities, clients, donors and survivors to best represent the voices of minorities and key stake holders at the national, regional and international level, acting in the interest of Ugandan minorities.
MIGHT does not discriminate and represents people from all circles of life including people of all races, class, religion, age, gender, national origin, tribe, ethnic origin, marital status, disability, political affiliation or opinion, and social or economic standing.
MIGHT was founded in 2014 and registered in 2016, as a company limited by guarantee, reg. no. 231132, after realizing that certain groups of Ugandan minorities were underrepresented or not represented by government officials, private sector and CSO’s, focusing on a specific mandate that protects a specific group of minorities or that is focused only on research or advocacy work etc. This among others, left many minorities without representation at the different country levels for example victims of war in unrepresented areas of the country, stranded and tortured or ill-treated persons in foreign countries, believers in traditional religion and culture, homeless persons among others. Thence, we were founded to prevent conflicts within the country, promote, protect and respect human rights and ensure sustainable development for all Ugandans.
Values and Objectives
Values
- We believe in sustainable peace and development, gender equality and awareness, fundamental human rights, democracy and the rule of law.
- We believe in a Uganda where all people are free to participate fully and fairly in civic, economic, social and cultural life.
- We believe in the principle of non-discrimination on grounds of historic exclusion, race, class, religion, age, gender, sexuality, national origin, tribe, ethnic origin, marital status, disability, political affiliation or opinion, and social or economic standing among others.
- We believe and respect the privacy of our clients or beneficiaries. Any information attained from our clients shall not be shared or communicated to the public except where such legal consent is obtained from the client or authorized person.
- We believe in an objective, transparent, non-partisan, diligent and action-oriented partnership with our donors while fulfilling our vision and mission.
- We believe in integrity, dignity and the highest professional standards that nurture responsibility, diligence, team work, creativity and innovation among our staff.
- We believe in wise accountability to our donors and clients.
- We believe in empowering minorities and communities in Uganda, to press for their own rights as empowered, to become knowledgeable and capacity building community advocates of peace, human rights and sustainable development in Uganda.
- We believe in setting standards for and monitoring standards of the relevant stake holders in the country without apportioning blame.
Objectives
- To promote, set-standards, protect and monitor developments in peace, human rights and related areas in trade and tax justice among others that create an environment which generates laws, policies and best practices that can be utilized to achieve peace, justice, democracy and sustainable development for all Ugandans, at a national, regional and international level.
- To provide a platform for advocacy, awareness raising, building capacities of stake holders and for stakeholders to deliberate on global, regional and national issues with a view of developing best practices against the marginalization of minorities in Uganda. Stake holders will include women, handicapped persons among other minorities, members of parliament, civil society organizations, Kingdoms and Chiefdoms, local governments, Ministers, Justices, police, army.
- To provide community-based development projects that empower minorities and promote human rights and sustainable development.
- To network with academic institutions, media houses, policy makers, non-governmental organizations, religious institutions, cultural institutions, civil society organizations and government institutions concerned about peace, human rights and sustainable development at a national, regional and international level, for the benefit of minorities in Uganda.
- To develop innovations contributing and contribute to the long term capacity of Uganda, in matters of peace, human rights and related matters in agriculture, finance and trade for an inclusive sustainable development.
- To strengthen the fight for peace, social justice, human rights, democracy, good governance and rule of law, without discrimination.
- To network with stake holders concerned about the promotion, protection and respect of peace, human rights and sustainable development in Uganda at national, regional and international levels.
